Description

Biochar is a plant-based charcoal made from olive-growing residues in Morocco. Its countless pores hold water and nutrients and shelter the soil's microbial life. It's a lasting soil improver: it stays in place for years.

What biochar does

Holds water.
Retains nutrients and reduces their loss with each watering.
Gives the potting mix a stable structure.
Supports soil life.
Puts local olive residues to good use.

How to use it

Charge it before use: mix it with mature compost, or soak it for 1 to 3 days in a diluted organic fertiliser (at that fertiliser's recommended dose).
Measure: start at 5% of the total volume of the mix, without exceeding 10%.
Mix it through all the potting mix when repotting.

Example: for 10 L of mix at 5%, 0.5 L of prepared biochar and 9.5 L of other components.
