Description

Calathea rufibarba is recognisable by touch: its long, narrow, wavy leaves are covered in a fine down, like velvet. Their dark purple undersides contrast with the deep green upper surface. It forms a dense, elegant clump, perfect for a shady corner.

Where to place it

In a bedroom, bathroom or a living room with little direct light. It prefers light shade to full light.

Caring for your Calathea rufibarba

  • Water as soon as the top of the soil dries, using low-lime water.
  • Humidify the air around it rather than wetting its velvety leaves.
  • Dust it with a soft brush, not a damp cloth.
  • Feed it lightly every three weeks in spring and summer.

The right potting mix

A moist, airy mix that holds water without suffocating the roots: our Alocasia and tropical plant mix.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Misting the downy leaves directly: water leaves marks on them.
  • Hot, dry air.
  • Soil that dries out right through.

Frequently asked questions

Why shouldn't I mist its leaves?
The down holds on to droplets, which leave marks. Use a tray of damp pebbles under the pot or a humidifier instead.

Every plant is chosen and checked at the studio before it leaves. Delivery anywhere in Morocco, or collection from our studio in Rabat. A plant that arrives damaged will be exchanged: let us know within 48 hours with a photo.
