Description
Philodendron Birkin is instantly recognisable: its dark green leaves are traced with fine creamy-white pinstripes, different on every leaf. It stays compact and grows slowly, making it an ideal plant for a desk or console. Young leaves are often paler and darken as they mature.
At a glance

Where to place it
Near a bright window, behind a sheer curtain. Its white stripes need light to stay crisp; in a dark corner, new leaves turn greener.
Caring for your Philodendron Birkin
- Water when the top two centimetres of soil are dry.
- It likes medium humidity: a fine-mist spray bottle helps when the heating is on.
- Dust the leaves with a damp cloth to keep their contrast.
- A feed of root feed for foliage plants once a month in spring and summer.
The right potting mix
An airy, moist mix that doesn't compact. Our Alocasia and tropical plant mix suits it very well.
Mistakes to avoid
- Lack of light: the plant loses its white stripes.
- Overwatering: leaves yellow from the bottom up.
- Repotting too often: it grows slowly and likes being a little snug.
Frequently asked questions
One leaf is completely green — is that normal?
Yes, it happens. If all the new leaves turn green, move the plant closer to the light.
