Description
Schefflera variegata is the variegated form of Schefflera, also known as the umbrella tree. It carries its star-shaped leaves at the end of long stalks, like the ribs of an umbrella. Here the leaflets are variegated green and cream, brightening any room. It's a sturdy, fast-growing plant that adapts well to an office or living room.

Where to place it
Near a bright window: the variegation needs light. It tolerates medium light but then becomes greener and sparser.
Caring for your Schefflera variegata
- Water when the top few centimetres of soil are dry.
- Cut back stems that grow too long in spring: it branches out and becomes denser.
- Dust the foliage from time to time.
- Feed it once a month in spring and summer with root feed for foliage plants.
The right potting mix
A free-draining potting soil, lightened with perlite.
Mistakes to avoid
- Overwatering: it drops its leaves all at once.
- Moving it around often.
- A dark corner: it grows leggy and loses its variegation.
