Description

Maranta leuconeura Fascinator is nicknamed the prayer plant: every evening it raises and folds its leaves, then opens them again in the morning. Its deep green oval leaves are traced with bright red veins and pale markings, a pattern that looks almost hand-painted. It's easy to grow and trails gracefully over time.

Where to place it

On a shelf or hanging, in a bright room without direct sun. A bright bathroom or a bedroom suits it very well.

Caring for your Maranta

  • Keep the soil slightly moist; water as soon as the surface dries.
  • Use low-lime water, left to stand overnight.
  • Mist around it in dry spells with a fine-mist spray bottle.
  • Cut back stems that grow too long: it branches out and becomes bushy again.

The right potting mix

A light, moisture-retentive mix: our Alocasia and tropical plant mix suits it.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Direct sun, which fades the veins.
  • Soil left dry for too long: curled leaves and crisp edges.
  • A pot that's too big and stays wet for too long.
