Clean leaves capture light better, and pests are less likely to settle on them.

What it is

Black soap is a gentle soap long used in the garden. Ours is prepared for foliage and ready to use: nothing to measure, just shake the bottle and spray.

It has two roles. It cleans: it removes the dust that dulls the leaves and slows photosynthesis. And it protects: used regularly, it makes the foliage less welcoming to pests such as aphids, mealybugs, spider mites, whiteflies or thrips, and limits diseases that take hold on dirty leaves, such as sooty mould.

For

  • Smooth-leaved plants
  • Indoors and outdoors
  • As a preventive

Why prevention

A pest is easier to deal with the earlier it's spotted. By cleaning your plants once a month, you remove the first insects, the sticky honeydew sooty mould grows on and the dust that weakens the leaf, and you look at each plant closely. It's the step that lets you act before a problem takes hold.

When to use it

  • Once a month, all year round, for care and prevention.
  • More often in summer, in dry weather or when the chergui blows: pests are more active then.
  • At the first signs: dull, sticky, speckled leaves, or leaves covered in fine webbing.
  • On a new plant, before placing it near the others.

Full Gentle · Dark: the step in full season. Light: the same step, gently.

All year round, once a month; more often in summer, when pests are active.

How to use it

  1. Shake the bottle before use.
  2. Spray all the foliage, tops and undersides of the leaves, not forgetting the stems and leaf joints, where insects hide.
  3. For routine care, wipe with a cleaning glove or a soft cloth, supporting the leaf with your other hand.
  4. If pests are present, leave it on without wiping and repeat every five to seven days for three to four weeks: the eggs hatch in several waves.
  5. In the morning or late in the day, never in full sun. On a plant you don't know yet, try it on a single leaf first.

Frequently asked questions

Does black soap protect against pests?

Used every month, it helps keep them at bay: clean foliage, inspected closely, is less welcoming to them, and the first insects are removed before they multiply. On aphids, mealybugs, spider mites or thrips that are already established, it works on contact: it has to reach them, and the application must be repeated.

And against diseases?

It removes dust and the sticky honeydew left by insects, on which sooty mould, a black fungus, develops. A disease that has already taken hold, with spreading spots, needs a diagnosis: send us a photo.

Does it need diluting?

No. It's ready to use: shake the bottle and spray.

Is it suitable for all plants?

For smooth-leaved plants: Monstera, Ficus, Philodendron, Calathea, Strelitzia, Alocasia… Avoid hairy leaves, such as those of African violets, and succulents covered in a powdery film, which protects them.

Can it be used around children and pets?

It must not be swallowed: keep the bottle out of their reach. Treat the plant away from them, let it dry, then put it back in its place.
